Prose Submission Guidelines
Submission closing date is 19th January 2024
We are excited to be accepting short stories, flash fiction, and creative non-fiction (including, but not limited to, memoir, journalism, literary non-fiction, and travel writing) that responds to the theme UNBREAKABLE.
You can interpret the theme however you wish. We are accepting unpublished and published work, as well as work that has been submitted for a UoG assignment. Ensure that it is your original work and that you own the publication rights. If the piece has been published elsewhere previously, please let us know where. You are welcome to include up to a 50-word bio in the submission email, but all pieces will be read and decided upon anonymously.
Please submit only one short story or non-fiction piece per author, or up to two pieces of flash fiction per author. The maximum word count for short stories and non-fiction pieces is 2200, and 500 per flash fiction piece.
When submitting, please include “Prose - [Type] Submission” in the email subject line and send it to cwanthology@glos.ac.uk
- Ensure your work includes the title in the header and the page number in the footer.
- Submit all work in 12pt, double spaced, Arial or Times New Roman font.
- As is standard for professional manuscripts, new paragraphs and dialogue should be indented, after the first line.
- Submit work in a .doc or .docx format.
- Submissions will be selected anonymously: do not include your name anywhere in the document; do include your name in the email.
- Transgressive themes and language are welcome under the provision that they are handled with sensitivity and are not used gratuitously.
- Each piece should be self-contained. It can be an extract from a longer work but must be able to stand alone.
- Successful submissions will be given to editors, who will coordinate with the authors to suggest any appropriate edits.
- Unfortunately, we are unable to offer feedback for unsuccessful submissions.
- If you have any questions, please email cwanthology@glos.ac.uk
