Illustration/Graphic Storytelling Guidelines
Submission closing date is 19th January 2024
Graphic Storytelling Guidelines
We are excited to be accepting graphic storytelling pieces that respond to the theme UNBREAKABLE. This includes graphic novel style, comic strip and illustration led storytelling.
You can interpret the theme however you wish. We are accepting unpublished and published work, as well as work that has been submitted for a UoG assignment. Ensure that it is your original work and that you own the publication rights. If the piece has been published elsewhere previously, please let us know where. You are welcome to include up to a 50-word bio in the submission email, but all pieces will be read and decided upon anonymously.
Collaborations (i.e. a writer working with an artist) are acceptable. Please ensure all parties involved in collaborations are acknowledged fairly.
For graphic novel style and comic strip works, please submit one piece only, no longer than six pages long with a maximum of eight panels per page.
For an illustration led story, please submit one piece only, no longer than six pages or 1000 words long. Straightforward ‘illustration plus story’ pieces (i.e. a picture on one page and only words on the next etc.) will need 12pt, double-spaced text, in Arial or Times New Roman font.
When submitting, please include “Graphic Storytelling - [Type] Submission” in the email subject line and send it to cwanthology@glos.ac.uk
- Ensure your work includes the title in the header and the page number in the footer.
- Submissions will be selected anonymously: do not include your name anywhere in the document; do include your name in the email.
- Transgressive themes and language are welcome under the provision that they are handled with sensitivity and are not used gratuitously.
- Each piece should be self-contained. It can be an extract from a longer work but must be able to stand alone.
- Successful submissions will be given to editors, who will coordinate with the authors to suggest any appropriate edits.
- Unfortunately, we are unable to offer feedback for unsuccessful submissions.
- If you have any questions, please email cwanthology@glos.ac.uk
